Read the Book!

For all the purposes of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God.” (II Corinthians 1:20)

Prophecy.  We enjoy studying it.  We like being taught it.  That is especially true today as we watch events unfold in the world.  We seem to have an insatiable thirst for knowing what is going to happen to us in the future – and just how near that future is.

The Puritans first came to America in the 1630s.  They became the most dynamic Christian force in the American colonies.  But perhaps what we are not aware of is that the Puritans also had a very prophetic side to them.  Long before Jews for Jesus, long before Messianic congregations, it was the Puritans who were saying that one day there would be a revival and the Jewish people would come back to know their Messiah.  It was called “The Mayflower Prophecies.”  And they were right.  That is exactly what is happening now.  More Jewish people have come to Messiah since Jerusalem came back to Israel than at any other time since the Book of Acts.  We are seeing their prophecies happening everywhere.  I have several Messianic Jews I read and study after.

Now, just how did these Puritans know and believe in such prophecies?  Easy!  They read their Bible.  They searched the scriptures, and by faith believed the promises found on its pages.

I have a friend who was brought up in a strict Catholic family.  She would inundate the sisters who taught her with question after question.  One of her favorite nuns would answer her inquisitiveness by saying, “read the book.”  And there you have it!  Want to know what is going to happen?  Read the book!  You and I are part of prophetic purposes, written centuries and thousands of years ago.  Purposes that are high and holy, from the all-seeing, all-knowing God.  In fact, we’re part of the plan.  Part of the plan God is working out to bring to fruition the prophecies he etched across the pages of Daniel, II Thessalonians, and Revelation.

We’re all interested and fascinated with what is happening in our world today and how it all fits into God’s perfect sovereign puzzle for the future.  What does all the conflict in the Middle East mean?  How is God going to use those who are world leaders to usher in the End Times?  What should we be watching closely in America and beyond?  How are we to know these things?  The answer is simple.  Join the Puritans and my friend – Read the Book!
