The Appointment

“I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west.” (Isaiah 43:5)

Appointments.  Don’t know about you, but my calendar is full of them.  You know what I mean.  Doctor appointments, meetings, lunch appointments.  You name them, you can find them on most of our calendars.

The shofar.  That is the trumpet of Israel that we have heard about, read about, and studied about.  It is a ram’s horn that is blown like a trumpet during Rosh Hashanah.  We first found this sacred instrument in Exodus 19, when its’ blast emanated from the thick cloud on Mount Sinai.  The sound of it made the Israelites tremble in awe.  But the shofar’s blast is what gathered the people around the mountain.  That is the purpose of the shofar.  To gather the people of Israel for a divine appointment.  When the priests sounded it, Israel would gather to meet with the Lord and worship because they had a divine appointment with God.  When the watchman sounded it, they would gather the people to prepare for war, because they had a divine appointment for God.

Isaiah 27:12-13 describes the blowing of the shofar that will gather Israel home for the end times. – “In that day the Lord will thresh from the flowing Euphrates to the Wadi of Egypt, and you, Israel, will be gathered up one by one.  And, in that day a great trumpet will sound.  Those who were perishing in Assyria and those who were exiled in Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.”

The State of Israel was proclaimed on May 14, 1948.  When that happened, Jews all over the world began returning to their homeland.  From the east, the west, the north, the south.  The shofar has sounded.  The Jews around the world are now gathering back to their promised land.  “Afterward, the people of Israel will return and seek the Lord their God and David their King (Jesus).  They will come trembling to the Lord and to his goodness in the last days.” (Hosea 3:5).

It is now the last days, and the shofar has sounded in Israel.  Why?  Because the Jewish people are being summoned by God to gather for a their most supreme appointment.  To meet their Messiah!
