The Apostasia

“That day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God”

(II Thessalonians 2:3)

The sexual revolution was a social movement that challenged traditional codes of behavior related to sexuality.  It took place in the 1960s and 1970s.  It condoned and increased acceptance of sexual behavior outside of moral norms.  Since that time, it has been like a snowball rolling down a hill, accumulating more and more flakes, until it is now a huge ball of wickedness and corruption.  And we are being told that if we don’t jump on its’ bandwagon, we are going to end up on the wrong side of history.

Yet, what would you think if I told you that this moral insanity is necessary?  That it is all part of prophecy that is making the way for the return of Jesus Christ?  Chapter 2 of II Thessalonians tells us that the end will not come, and Jesus Christ will not return, until there is a great falling away.  A mass departing from faith, the word of God, and truth.  The Greek word for this condition is apostasia.  Apostasia comes from two other Greek words that mean a departure from the state of being.  It is where we get our English word apostate, which means a traitor or defector.

What does it mean to depart from a state of being?  We know that everything God speaks is his Word, and it is recorded in scripture.  The creation came from his Word.  From his Word came mankind.  So, the departure from any form of his Word will lead to a departure from the state of being.  A departure from the state of creation.

My point is this:  The end will not come until there is a falling away from the image of creation, including mankind’s creation.  The departure of men from the state of manhood (homosexuality), the departure of women from the state of womanhood (lesbianism), of fathers from the state of fatherhood (abusers), of mothers from the state of motherhood (abortion).  It is a total departure of mankind from the state of humanity that God designed for us to live in.  God given affections distorted, warped, and twisted.  This is what the bible refers to as apostasia.  And we are most definitely living in that state of apostasia

What can you and I do about it?  Actually, there is nothing we can do about it.  It is prophesied in God’s Word and therefore it must happen.  But there are things we can do as we walk through it.  We can hold more strongly to the Word of God, to faith, and to a moral stand.  And to prayer.  Our battle is fought in prayer.  The more we do this, the more we will live in the state of creation God designed you and me to be in.  And we will gladly stay on the wrong side of history!
