Perfection

“God will perfect that which concerns me”

Psalm 138:8

I believe that if you’re going to do something, you should do it right.  So for me that means details should be thought out thoroughly and done correctly.  That doesn’t mean it’s going to be perfect, but I think you should make it the best you can.  However if you’re not a detail person I’m sure we “semi OCD” people can probably get on your nerves.  We had our master bath remodeled last summer.  I’m pretty sure I drove our contractor crazy with the details I wanted.  I could tell because one day he said to me, “You’re a type A personality, aren’t you?”  I’m pretty sure that was a nice way to say “lighten up, lady!”

God is definitely into details.  Especially when it comes to his children’s lives.  In fact, He cares so much about us that He perfectly selects every detail He creates in us.  Just the right amount of oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen.  Perfect!  The color of our eyes and the shine in our hair.  Perfect!  The size of our ears and the slant of our nose.  Perfect!  The sound of our voice and the balance of our temperamental traits.  Perfect!  No wonder David praised the Lord in Psalm 139:14 by saying, “I have been so amazingly and miraculously made.”

So all this talk of God’s perfection in our lives leads me to make a point.  The Bible tells us in Romans 8:28 that “God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose.”  It doesn’t say He causes some things or most things to work together.  It specifically says “all things.”  That means every equation less than “all” is out of the picture.  It also means that there is no amount greater than “all.”  No subtractions.  No additions.  Whatever we are going through in our lives right now is perfect.  Whatever is going to happen to us six months from now is perfect.

So this is an encouragement to myself, as well as to each of you.  Let’s remember God’s perfection every moment of our lives.
