God’s Watch

“When the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen”

(Isaiah 60:22)

Time.  We human beings are pretty much obsessed with it.  Ever stopped and counted how many clocks, watches, computers, and cell phones you have that tell you the time?  We need them.  They help tell us when to get up, when to go to bed.  They keep us posted on the schedule of our appointments.  Without knowing the time, we would be wandering around confused and aimless.  Timing is very important.

And it is of utmost importance to God also.  That is why he makes his timing perfect.  His heavenly watch is always set precise for every event and circumstance in our life, as well as in the world we live in.  In November 1947, an archeologist named Eliezer Sukenik was deciphering the writings of some parchments he had just obtained from Bethlehem.  On the other side of the world in Flushing Queens, the newly formed United Nations was voting on whether the nation of Israel would be resurrected from the dead.  Sukenik’s son was listening to the radio reporting the vote of each country.  At the very moment Israel was declared a nation after two thousand years of dispersion, on the other side of the world Sukenik was reading the ancient words of the Dead Sea Scrolls prophecy from the scroll of thanksgiving.  He read, “I was driven from my home like a bird from its nest; I was cast down but raised up again.”  The words of that prophecy at the time of Sukenik reading it, were coming true for the Jewish people, for they were indeed being raised from the dead.

God keeps his promises – even if it might take two thousand years!  What are you waiting and watching for God to do?  What prayer has been pouring from your lips for such a long time?  What promises of God have you been believing for the past year or many years?  Our God is always faithful to keep his promises.  He kept his promise to ancient Israel.  Yes, it took two thousand years, but he kept it and answered it when the time was right.

No, God’s watch isn’t set on our timetable.  Our watch is earthly and defective.  God’s watch is set on the perfection of a heavenly timetable.  So, be patient.  God hasn’t forgotten you, just like he never forgot his promise to his people Israel.  He WILL do as he has said – but – it will be when the time is right!
