“For all the promises of God are “yea” in Christ”
(II Corinthians 1:20)God keeps all his promises, and today I would like to remind us of one of his important ones, though it is not one that comes to our minds when we think of the promises of God. We are a mere five months into the year of 2025, and I have been noticing something very significant happening in America and the world. Something that should make each of us stop and ponder. Twenty-nine of our fifty states have experienced one or more significant events so far this year. Likewise, ninety-nine countries have experienced the same events. I am talking about earthquakes.
California leads the way in America with nearly twelve hundred. Alaska is right behind them coming in at almost eight hundred. But then there are another twenty-seven states who have had a whole lot of shaking going on. And that includes our home state of Ohio. We can also add to the list ninety-nine other countries that have had earthquakes so far this year – the largest measuring 7.7 on the Richter Scale. It seems to me that I wake up nearly every morning with my newsfeed telling me of another earthquake somewhere in the world.
So, the question we must ask ourselves is why so many earthquakes? Is it tectonic plate movement like we are being told – whatever that means? Or is it volcanic activity? Or is it that we humans are overdoing hydraulic fracturing? At least those are the reasons the world gives us for so many earthquakes.
However, I believe the real reason for all the earthly upheaval is found in Hebrews 12:26. There God promises “once more I will shake not only the earth, but heaven as well.” This promise is a reference to Haggai 2:6, which indicates a future event, and highlights God’s ongoing plan and the fulfillment of his promises through Christ’s redemptive work.
What this means is that the events of Hebrews 12:26 will take place in the End Times. So many believers want to know when the End Times will come. Personally, I believe we have been in the End Times since the coming of Jesus Christ and the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD. Therefore, I believe the shaking of the entire earth is being fulfilled right now as part of the promise of God found in Hebrews 12:26 and Haggai 2:6. Promises we don’t think about very much but need to.
This information presents us with two very significant thoughts. The first is a challenge to pray for a great spiritual awakening around the world. Pray that God’s Holy Spirit will bring conviction of sin and repentance. Pray that millions will respond to His leading and turn to Jesus Christ. Pray for America to become a true Christian nation. But there is a second significant thing about the earthquakes in our world which we need to be aware of. That is that to date in 2025 the nation of Israel has had none. Now there’s something to ponder.
